About Chris Acton and Acton Creative
Hi, I’m Chris! I live in NW Indiana, about 5 miles from Lake Michigan and an hour from Chicago. Luckily, I took a weaving class while I was working a corporate job in the Chicago suburbs and it was love at first sight. With hardly a backward glance, I quit my job with the intention of weaving all day long. That was in 2008.Â
After an impressive list of part-time jobs, and lots of experience selling my work at fairs and markets all over the country, I’ve finally found my niche as a weaving instructor who specializes in beginners – my favorite kind of weaver.
As it turns out, I love any conversation that begins with “This is a loom”. I get a thrill out of breaking down the weaving concepts, equipment, and materials into bite-sized pieces and watching a beginner’s face light up when they finally put it all together. My mission in this world is to guide someone from simply being the owner of a loom, to becoming a confident, creative weaver.

Join in! Acton Creative Weave-Alongs are an online, month-long weaving adventure that happens each April and October.
There are just 2 guidelines:
- We all start and finish a project that month; and
- We all use the same pattern.
Every Weave Along has an optional Facebook Group where you can swap stories and progress, or ask questions. While the process of playing with a new pattern is always exciting, the entire experience is a perfect opportunity to build community!
The Acton Creative Insiders are the first to know what is brewing at Acton Creative (new classes and products, etc.), as well as other very important nuggets (like what the pattern is for an upcoming Weave Along!). Plus, I like to toss in extras just for the heck of it!

Live at the Loom is a 45-minute (ish) livestream broadcasted on Facebook and YouTube that occurs every Thursday at 9:30 am CST.
Weavers and fiber lovers from all over the world come online to talk about their projects, ask questions, and touch base with each other. As the moderator, I toss out questions about life/weaving, show my current project on the loom, and help however I can, sprinkling feedback and encouragement everywhere. It’s a fun, entertaining, and informative program that will keep you coming back for more!Â
